Meditation Work - 2/7/2024
I am finding as I begin my journey into meditation to start working on my innerself. Its much harder than it looks to bring yourself in a relaxed state.
Memories of days gone by, stress of the day creeping in, unfinished worked that you couldn't get too and the millions of other thoughts in your mind racing bombarding you at once.
I am trying to embrace them and push past them as I work on relaxing my body, so my mind can join as one in a relaxed space and work towards becoming my wole self.
The blackening phase, I keep reading and hearing is the hardest of them of all. And I truly think it even begins just by accepting yourself in the mirror, all your impuirties, your things you don't love about yourself, to shed them and fully truly love you for you who you are.
This is will be a long, rewarding and powerful journey and I am exclted.
What Is Spiritual Alchemy - 2/1/2024
Many people hear 'alchemy' and they think of an old man in a robe, fiddling with beakers and chemicals trying to turn lead into gold.
However, Alchemy is much deeper than that. Before the Renaissance times and the age of chemistry, the modern form of alchemy, many used Alchemy in a spiritual way to cleanse their impurities through the same phases a physical alchemist would take their metals through.
Using these methods, it was believed you could bring yourself closer to becoming one with the universe or the divine or become the walking philosopher's stone, an embodiment of perfection and the Alchemist's true Magnum Opus (Great Work).
Lets back up and dive a little deeper.
-
Origins of Alchemy:
- Alchemy is an ancient practice that blends elements of science, mysticism, and philosophy. It originated in Hellenistic Egypt and had significant influences from Greek, Arabic, and Jewish cultures.
- The primary goals of alchemy were the transmutation of base metals into noble metals like gold, the creation of an elixir of immortality, and the discovery of a universal cure for diseases.
- Alchemy is considered both a precursor to modern chemistry and a spiritual discipline, focusing on purification and transformation at both material and spiritual levels.
-
Philosophical Alchemy:
- Philosophical alchemy views the process of transmutation as symbolic of personal transformation and enlightenment.
- The Magnum Opus or Great Work of alchemy involves personal stages of blackening (nigredo), whitening (albedo), yellowing (citrinitas), and reddening (rubedo), symbolizing stages of purification and enlightenment.
-
Nigredo – Blackening:
- Symbolism: Nigredo represents the initial stage of breaking down or decomposition. It's a phase of introspection, acknowledging one's shadow or darker aspects. Psychologically, it's about confronting one's inner darkness and the death of the ego.
- Alchemical Process: In practical alchemy, Nigredo is the first operation in the alchemical process. It involves the heating of substances to break them down into their basic components. It's the putrefaction or decomposition phase where matter is cleansed and purified.
- Psychological Parallel: In terms of personal transformation, Nigredo is about personal despair and chaos. It's often triggered by a significant life crisis or realization of one's own limitations and mortality. It's a necessary stage for growth, as it lays the groundwork for renewal.
-
Albedo – Whitening:
- Symbolism: Albedo symbolizes purification and the washing away of impurities. It's about gaining self-awareness and clarity after the chaos of Nigredo. Psychologically, it represents the uncovering of the unconscious and bringing light to the shadows.
- Alchemical Process: In alchemy, Albedo involves the washing and purification of the material. It's often associated with water and the moon, emphasizing purity and the recovery of wholeness through reflection and introspection.
- Psychological Parallel: On a personal level, Albedo is the phase of reflection, learning, and gradual rebuilding. It's about exploring the unconscious, healing, and slowly integrating the lessons from the Nigredo phase. It represents hope and the potential for renewal.
-
Citrinitas – Yellowing:
- Symbolism: Citrinitas, though sometimes omitted or considered a sub-phase, represents the dawning of the "solar light" within the alchemist and the manifestation of wisdom. It's the transmutation of silver (moon) into gold (sun), symbolizing enlightenment and the discovery of true wisdom.
- Alchemical Process: In physical alchemy, Citrinitas involves further refinement and sublimation of the substance. It's about achieving a balance between the solar and lunar aspects within the alchemist's work.
- Psychological Parallel: Psychologically, Citrinitas is the stage of enlightenment and insight. It's about the integration of lessons learned and the illumination of the mind and spirit. It represents the maturation of the soul and the realization of one's true potential.
-
Rubedo – Reddening:
- Symbolism: Rubedo is the culmination of the Magnum Opus. It represents the achievement of the Great Work and the alchemist's goal. It symbolizes the fusion of opposites, the unity of the material and spiritual, and the birth of the "Philosopher's Stone."
- Alchemical Process: In alchemy, Rubedo is the final stage, where the substance is heated to a very high temperature. It's about achieving perfection and the creation of the Philosopher's Stone, capable of turning base metals into gold and granting immortality.
- Psychological Parallel: On a personal level, Rubedo represents the achievement of wholeness and self-realization. It's about the integration of all previous stages, leading to a state of enlightenment, unity with the cosmos, and the realization of one's true self.
This spiritual aspect of alchemy emphasizes balance and unity of opposites.
Alchemy is vast and offers much to learn on how to truly become ones true self. I will be blogging once a day about Alchemy providing different insights about it and how I am doing on my journey. please feel free to reach out if you are on your journey of truth seeking, knoweldge and enlightment.
